Rethink Coalition has led a community-wide conversation about how we can improve the quality of place in Indianapolis for people to live, work, play, and stay, an economic imperative for the State. Other cities are taking advantage of the opportunity to rebuild their urban interstates. We can too.

Rethink Coalition is committed to ensuring that Central Indiana is a vibrant, innovative, and healthy place for people, with a built environment that supports these goals. Our work has advanced the benefits of recessing the Inner Loop through collaboration with stakeholders and decision-makers to analyze all the implications for our city and state and forever put behind us the idea that rebuilding the Inner Loop is simply a “road project.” The Visionary Study funded by the Lilly Endowment proved the feasibility and demonstrated the multifaceted economic, environmental, livability, and connectivity benefits of recessing the Inner Loop. Rethink Coalition is leading the technical research, planning and design, and community outreach conversations to maximize these benefits and fully realize this transformative vision.
