Rethink Coalition Launches First Community Workshop Related to the Southeast Gateway Planning Study
Indianapolis, IN – The Rethink Coalition is excited to announce the launch of its first workshop related to the Southeast Gateway Planning Study. This initiative has been made possible by a highly competitive $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) through their Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant Program. This inaugural federal initiative aims to address the long-term impacts of past transportation infrastructure decisions.
When: Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Where: Switchboard, 801 Shelby Street
What: Join the Rethink Coalition for an informative, interactive workshop. Learn about plans for the I-65/I-70 Southeast Gateway and join fellow community members for discussion and brainstorming about how the interstates can be reshaped to serve Indianapolis communities into the future.
The study is exploring design alternatives for capping the Virginia Avenue “South Split” where the Inner Loop is already partially recessed. This innovative approach seeks to reconnect neighborhoods and improve urban spaces affected by previous infrastructure projects.
“To prepare for the Southeast Gateway Study, the Rethink Coalition thoughtfully assembled an expert team of professional consultants and advisors to lead this vital community engagement work,” said Brenda Freije, President and CEO of the Rethink Coalition. “We are honored to be one of 39 grantees, the majority of whom are city and state transportation agencies. As one of only two nonprofit entities to receive this award, we are uniquely positioned to bring a community-first and outside-the-box approach to improve our built environment.”
The Rethink Coalition looks forward to working closely with the community and stakeholders to develop a visionary plan that will enhance connectivity and quality of life in Indianapolis. Learn more https://www.rethink65-70.org/
